Four sentenced to death in Moulvibazar Naim murder case

A court in Moulvibazar on Wednesday sentenced four people to death in a case over the murder of college student Rezaul Karim Naim.

Moulvibazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Robiul Awal handed down the verdict, acquitting five other accused in the case.

According to the case statement, a dispute erupted between Naim’s father, Mohammad Cherag Mia, and his neighbour Nurul Islam at Cherag’s house in Barshijora village under Chandnighat union of Moulvibazar Sadar upazila on the evening of November 7, 2025.

The dispute reportedly stemmed from a Facebook account, with Nurul accusing Cherag of operating a fake account using his photograph.

At one point, Nurul allegedly verbally abused and assaulted Naim’s parents. When Naim intervened, Nurul, his son Rony Mia and their associates allegedly attacked him with locally made weapons.

Naim sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where he died early the following day.

On November 9, his father filed a case with Moulvibazar Model Police Station against 10 named accused and four to five unidentified individuals.

The accused, including Nurul Islam, allegedly went into hiding after the incident.
