Bangladesh invites global energy firms to bid for 26 offshore blocks
Bangladesh has invited international oil and gas companies to participate in the Bangladesh Offshore Bidding Round 2026, offering 26 offshore blocks in the Bay of Bengal to global investors.
The investment opportunity was presented at a ministerial session of the Strategic Stage of the World Energies Summit in London on Tuesday, where Bangladesh highlighted its rising energy demand, offshore resource potential and investment framework.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said the country’s energy demand was increasing steadily amid rapid economic growth.
He said the government was taking steps to expand exploration and production of domestic gas and other energy resources to meet growing demand.
The state minister also called on international oil and gas companies to participate in the 2026 offshore bidding round.
The round offers 26 offshore blocks, comprising 11 shallow-water and 15 deep-water blocks in the Bay of Bengal.
At the summit, Invest Bangladesh Chairman Ashik Chowdhury outlined the country’s broader economic outlook, highlighting macroeconomic stability, positive investment flows and government measures aimed at facilitating international investment.
He also highlighted the largely unexplored potential of Bangladesh’s offshore resources, the availability of advanced seismic data and the competitive commercial terms offered under the Offshore Model Production Sharing Contract (PSC) 2026.
At the close of the session, the Bangladesh delegation encouraged international energy companies to examine the country’s geological and seismic data before deciding whether to participate in the bidding round.
The delegation also urged prospective investors to contact the Bangladesh government and Petrobangla directly for additional information and to take part in the ongoing bidding process.
