Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday instructed law enforcement agencies to provide full cooperation to Dhaka University (DU) authorities in ensuring a peaceful and festive environment during the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections scheduled for Tuesday.

He issued the directive while presiding over a high-level meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka to review the country’s overall law and order situation.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam shared the information at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy after the meeting.

“All-out cooperation must be extended to the university authorities so that the DUCSU elections can take place in a peaceful and festive atmosphere,” Shafiqul quoted the chief adviser as saying.

Professor Yunus further observed that defeated and cornered fascist forces were becoming increasingly desperate as the nation moved closer to elections and as trials of those linked to the July massacre gathered pace.

“This is not merely a law and order issue; it concerns national security. They are deploying all their strength to disrupt peace, stability, and the democratic progress of the nation,” he warned.

The press secretary added that the meeting resolved not to show any leniency toward those attempting to create unrest, stressing that protecting national security must remain the top priority.

The government, he said, believes it is essential for all political parties to stand united with the people in the interest of the nation.

Shafiqul also informed that the chief adviser warned of possible conspiracies to create unrest during the upcoming Durga Puja.

“Durga Puja was celebrated peacefully last year with effective law and order management. This year too, we must use that experience and take all necessary security measures in advance to prevent any disturbance,” the chief adviser was quoted as saying.

The meeting further instructed the Ministry of Religious Affairs to engage with all faith-based organizations to maintain communal harmony. The religious affairs adviser will soon sit with these groups to strengthen interfaith relations.

In addition, emphasis was placed on round-the-clock monitoring of the law and order situation, enhancing coordination among security forces, and activating local administrations to remain vigilant. The meeting also underscored the need to rebuild the political unity forged after the July massacre and to foster healthy relations among political parties.

Everyone, the press secretary noted, was directed to stay alert so that no untoward incident occurs during the election.

The meeting also called for stricter monitoring of sudden processions, unauthorized meetings, and gatherings, with instructions to take firm legal measures against those orchestrating such activities.

Deputy Press Secretaries to the Chief Adviser, Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir, were present at the briefing.
