BNP-Chhatra Dal Clash Over Eid Greeting Banners in Chittagong: Two Shot, Two Stabbed
A violent clash erupted between BNP and Chhatra Dal members in Chittagong city over the hoisting of Eid-ul-Fitr greeting banners, resulting in two people being shot and two others stabbed.
- The incident occurred around 8:15 PM on Friday in the Kusumbagh residential area under Khulshi police station.
- The victims of gunfire were identified as Ziadur Rahman and Anwar Hossain, while the identities of the stabbed individuals remain unknown.
- Following the clash, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulshi police station was withdrawn.
Background of the Conflict
- The clash took place between supporters of Nagar BNP Joint Convener Abdul Halim Shah Alam and Nagar Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Shariful Islam Tuhin, who have an existing rivalry.
- Shah Alam is affiliated with BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud, while Tuhin is a follower of Central Joint Organizing Secretary Mir Helal Uddin.
- Eyewitnesses and police sources stated that tensions flared over the placement of banners at the GEC intersection, leading to a confrontation in the Kusumbagh area.
Police Response
- Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-North) Md. Jahangir confirmed that the situation is now under control with adequate police deployment.
- Following the incident, CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz ordered the immediate removal of Khulshi Police Station OC Mujibur Rahman.
- Kotwali Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Aftab Hossain has been assigned as the new OC of Khulshi Police Station.
