Army Chief General Waker has affirmed that the military will extend its full support to the Election Commission to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman said on Sunday that the Army will provide full support to the Election Commission (EC) to help ensure a free, fair, and peaceful national election.

Speaking at an event at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment marking Armed Forces Day, he said, “The country is heading toward an election, and we will fully support the government in this process. We will assist the Election Commission so that the election is conducted fairly and peacefully. The Army remains committed to upholding law and order.”

He further noted that the Bangladesh Army will continue to serve the nation’s interests and work for the welfare of its people, following the ideals of the freedom fighters.

At the event, the Army Chief also awarded medals to 64 army personnel for bravery and distinguished service, and recognised 75 families of freedom fighters. Among the awards, 9 personnel received the Army Medal, 17 the Distinguished Service Medal, and 38 the Exceptional Service Medal for their contributions in fiscal years 2024–25 and 2025–26.
