The government requests clarification from the UN regarding the report on the Rohingya exodus
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested clarification from the United Nations regarding a report published by the UN Refugee Agency, which contains factually inaccurate information. The ministry has also asked for the basis on which the report was compiled.
Bangladesh anticipates that the UNHCR will issue a revised version of the report, according to UNB.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its concerns to UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka, Gwen Lewis, on Monday, as per sources from the MoFA.
On January 7, the UN Refugee Agency's Myanmar office released a report stating that 71,300 people had been displaced from Myanmar and left the country between February 2021 and December 2024. The report indicated that all of these individuals entered India's Manipur and Mizoram states, suggesting that no displaced persons from Myanmar had entered Bangladesh over the past three years.
