Tarique Rahman Vows to Modernize Armed Forces If BNP Returns to Power
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday pledged that his party would prioritize the modernization and strengthening of the Armed Forces if it returns to power, continuing its longstanding efforts in this area.
In a message marking Armed Forces Day, Tarique highlighted the transformation of the Bangladesh Armed Forces during the leadership of former President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman. "Since the time of Shaheed Zia, the Bangladesh Armed Forces have become a disciplined, efficient, and vigilant modern force, comparable to the military of any advanced nation in the world," he said.
Tarique emphasized that successive BNP governments had consistently worked to enhance the Armed Forces, building upon the foundational programs initiated by Ziaur Rahman. "Our efforts to modernize and strengthen the Armed Forces will continue in the future," he assured, extending his best wishes for the success of all Armed Forces Day programs.
The BNP acting chairman also extended greetings to the members of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. "I wish all members of the Armed Forces and their families happiness, peace, and prosperity. On this occasion, I hope for the continued advancement and success of our Armed Forces," he added.
Tarique paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War, including iconic heroes like Sepoy Mostafa Kamal, Captain Mahiduddin Jahangir, and others, acknowledging their sacrifices in shaping the Armed Forces into a symbol of national pride built on courage, discipline, and dedication.
He praised the role of the Armed Forces in the 1971 Liberation War, describing it as a "golden chapter in history," and lauded their contributions to safeguarding the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Tarique also recognized the Armed Forces' contributions to global peace through their active participation in UN peacekeeping missions, which he said brings honor to the country. Additionally, he commended their pivotal role in tackling natural disasters and earning the trust of the nation.
Highlighting Ziaur Rahman's vision, Tarique stated, "As the proclaimer of independence, Ziaur Rahman introduced comprehensive programs to develop the Armed Forces into a modern, dynamic, and professional force aligned with global standards." He paid deep respects to Zia’s memory and the martyrs of the Liberation War, expressing gratitude for their sacrifices.
Khaleda Zia to Attend Senakunja Reception
Armed Forces Day will be celebrated on Thursday with various events to commemorate the establishment of the Army, Navy, and Air Force during the Liberation War.
After nearly 11 years, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to attend the Armed Forces Day reception at Senakunja on Thursday afternoon. On Tuesday night, the Armed Forces Division of the Chief Adviser’s Office invited Khaleda, along with 26 other BNP leaders, including Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, to the event.
The celebration is expected to take place with enthusiasm, highlighting the achievements and contributions of the Armed Forces to the nation.
