Security heightened around Jatiya Party headquarters amid rising tensions

Police have intensified security around the Jatiya Party’s central office in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, amid rising tensions. Strict measures are now in place, with authorities preventing anyone from gathering near the office.
On Saturday, the Jatiya Party had planned a rally outside its headquarters. In response, the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad announced their intention to block the event. Following these developments, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a ban on rallies in the area, prompting both groups to suspend their gatherings.
This escalation follows an attack on the Jatiya Party's central office Thursday evening, during which individuals associated with the "Anti-Fascist Students, Workers, and People" group reportedly threw bricks, clashed with party members, and started a fire near the premises.
Both sides accuse each other of initiating the violence. The protest, organized by former Chhatra Odhikar Parishad president Bin Yamin Molla, included a torchlight procession from the Raju sculpture at Dhaka University, through Shahbagh, to Bijoynagar.
As the procession approached the Jatiya Party office, tensions rose, sparking a standoff between the groups. Bin Yamin Molla, the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad president, had earlier warned against allowing the Jatiya Party to hold its rally, framing it as part of a broader scheme to rehabilitate the Awami League. He also demanded the arrest of Jatiya Party leaders.
Student leader Mashiur Rahman similarly alleged collusion between the Jatiya Party and Awami League in attacks on protesters.
With these rising tensions, the DMP issued a prohibition on all gatherings in the Kakrail area on Saturday, aiming to preserve public order in light of the volatile situation.
