The submission of individual income tax returns will begin in July this year, announced National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan on Wednesday. This is a notable change from last year’s timeline, when the process started in September. The earlier start is intended to encourage timely filing and improve tax compliance.
“So far, 1.7 million (17 lakh) income tax returns have already been filed online,” the NBR chairman said during a seminar organised by the Youth Policy Network, where he was present as the chief guest.
He emphasised the NBR’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen digital infrastructure and improve taxpayer services, with the aim of fostering voluntary compliance and ensuring greater transparency in the tax system.
“We are working toward a fully automated revenue system, so taxpayers won’t need to physically visit tax offices in the future,” he added.
The chairman also noted that revenue collection stood at nearly Tk 3.53 billion as of the previous day and expressed optimism about increased revenue growth in the current fiscal year
