SAD to abstain from President’s Victory Day programme
Students Against Discrimination (SAD) has announced its decision to boycott the Victory Day reception hosted by President Md Shahabuddin.
In a press statement released on Monday, the platform that led the July-August uprising declared, "Students Against Discrimination rejects the invitation of President Md Shahabuddin Chuppu, who is associated with the fascist regime, to celebrate the day at Bangabhaban marking the glorious Victory Day." The statement further noted, "SAD considers celebrating a day of national pride like Victory Day at the invitation of a president linked to fascism as inconsistent with the aspirations of a mass uprising."
Meanwhile, a bulletin issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday stated that, in honor of Victory Day, the Chief Advisor, Chief Justice, advisors responsible for various ministries, foreign diplomats, senior government officials, leaders of various organizations, gallantry award-winning freedom fighters, and other prominent figures are scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to the president at Bangabhaban.
