"I always had faith that he could win us the match," Mahedi says about Hasan Mahmud's decisive final over
Bangladesh off-spinner Mahedi Hasan expressed confidence in Hasan Mahmud's ability to clinch victory in the final over, even when the odds were against them in the opening match of the three-match T20I series against the West Indies at St. Kitts on Monday.
Bangladesh secured a 1-0 lead, thanks to Mahedi’s four-wicket haul and Hasan’s exceptional final over. Defending 10 runs against a well-set Rovman Powell, Hasan dismissed Powell and Alzarri Joseph in consecutive deliveries, sealing a seven-run victory for the visitors.
“Hasan proved himself again. I still remember during a series against Ireland, he won us a game in the death overs, and I had the same feeling that he could do it again,” Mahedi told reporters after the match.
“I don’t know if Hasan himself believed it, but I always had faith that he could win it for us. Alhamdulillah, Hasan bowled brilliantly in the last over,” he added.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Mahedi said, “We ended the Test series on a high, and although we started well in the ODI series, we couldn’t finish it as we wanted. Alhamdulillah, in this month of victory, we’ve started strong in the T20Is. We still have two games left, and we’re ready to give our all to win the series.”
