Protesting students announce an indefinite closure of Titumir College
Students have declared a blockade from 11 AM to 10 PM, impacting Amtoli, Mohakhali, and Gulshan Link Road.
Protesting students have announced an indefinite shutdown of Government Titumir College, demanding its conversion into a university. They have also called for an 11-hour blockade in support of their sole demand.
The announcement was made during a press conference in front of the college's main gate around 11 PM on Sunday. According to their statement, the shutdown will begin on Monday morning, halting all academic and administrative activities indefinitely. The students have also declared a blockade from 11 AM to 10 PM, which will impact Amtoli, Mohakhali, and the Gulshan Link Road.
Mahmudul Hasan Mukta, an adviser to the Titumir Unity group and a representative of the protesting students, stated, "Starting Monday, classes, exams, and administrative work will be suspended. No one will be allowed entry to Titumir until our demand is fulfilled."
During the press conference, the students also put forward three demands:
- Titumir College should be recognized as a university, and an academic calendar should be published.
- The education adviser must retract his statement.
- A thorough investigation should be conducted into the law adviser's interference with the Titumir Commission, and the law adviser must issue a public apology.
However, the students clarified that the Saraswati Puja activities at the college will continue as scheduled on Monday.
