Former DG of Directorate of Posts Sudhanshu Arrested
Sudhanshu Shekhar Bhadra, the former Director General of the Directorate of Posts, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in connection with a corruption case involving irregularities in a government project. The case, filed on August 20, accuses Bhadra of embezzling funds during the purchase of servers and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) valued at Tk15 crore. The equipment was procured as part of a government initiative under his oversight, but discrepancies in the transactions raised concerns about corruption.
Bhadra was arrested on Tuesday night by ACC Deputy Assistant Director Nazir Akand. According to ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Md Aktarul Islam, the process to present him before a court is ongoing. This arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into corruption within Bangladesh's postal services.
The case against Bhadra is part of a larger effort to tackle corruption within government institutions. In 2020, after the allegations first came to light, Bhadra was placed on compulsory leave from his position due to accusations of corruption and a breach of discipline. His suspension followed recommendations by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Posts and Telecommunications, which advocated for his removal based on the severity of the charges.
The arrest of Bhadra reflects the ACC's commitment to pursuing high-profile corruption cases and holding government officials accountable for misuse of public funds. His alleged involvement in misappropriating project funds highlights the broader challenges of transparency and governance in Bangladesh's public institutions. The ACC's ongoing investigation aims to ensure that those responsible for corruption face justice, and the court proceedings will determine Bhadra's future as the case unfolds.
