Golam Kibria Tipu, the former Member of Parliament for the Barishal-3 constituency, was detained by local residents and handed over to the police on Thursday.

Tipu, who serves as the general secretary of the Dhaka metropolitan unit of the Awami League's voluntary wing, Swechasebak League, was apprehended in the Bir Bagair area of Keraniganj, Dhaka, around 7:00 pm.

Officer-in-Charge of Dakshin Keraniganj police station, Mazharul Islam, stated that Tipu was caught by locals in the Bir Baghoir area on Thursday night and then handed over to the police, according to UNB reports.

Tipu is named as an accused in a case filed at the Motijheel police station, the OC confirmed. He was subsequently transferred to Motijheel police station for further processing.

Tipu was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Barishal-3 constituency in the 2008 election as a member of the Jatiya Party before later joining the Awami League. He is originally from the Agarpur area in Barishal Sadar upazila.
