Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has stated that the interim government is dedicated to implementing crucial labor reforms to align the country’s labor laws with ILO standards.

"We’ve already made some progress, and you will see the changes very soon," Yunus remarked when leaders from Nirapon, an organization focused on improving worker safety in Bangladesh's factories, met with him at the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday. The delegation was led by Simone Sultana, chair of Nirapon, and Tapan Chowdhury, an independent director of the group.

Representatives from leading Western brands and retailers were also present at the meeting.

Lutfey Siddiqi, special envoy to the Chief Adviser, mentioned that the interim government had already signed an 18-point agreement with labor unions and manufacturers, bringing stability to the sector and contributing to a boost in garment exports.

Simone Sultana expressed her gratitude to the Chief Adviser for his efforts in initiating reforms in the garment industry. She highlighted that Nirapon, in collaboration with local partners like BRAC and Amader Kotha, plays a key role in developing and providing innovative tools to help factories manage safety.

Brand representatives also expressed satisfaction with the improvements in factory safety across the country.

Other attendees included Lamiya Morshed, Senior Secretary and Principal Coordinator on SDG Affairs, and Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority.
