BNP’s Ishraque Supporters Block Nagar Bhaban for Fourth Consecutive Day

Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain are staging protests for the fourth consecutive day outside Nagar Bhaban, demanding that he be handed over the mayoral office of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). The protesters have blocked and locked multiple gates of the building, effectively halting almost all work at the DSCC since Sunday morning.

Following a pre-planned schedule, Ishraque’s supporters began gathering at the DSCC offices from different parts of Dhaka around 9 a.m., positioning themselves in front of the main gate and the adjacent road while chanting slogans supporting Ishraque and criticizing Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain. Jubo Dal activist Mohiuddin Ahmed, who traveled from Gendaria to join the protest, accused the government of using excuses to prevent Ishraque from assuming office, with Advisor Asif leading the opposition.

Due to the blockade, DSCC officials and employees have been unable to enter the office, with the accounts department confirming the office closure and limited access. DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Zillur Rahman also reported that official paperwork has been stalled, prompting officials to focus on site visits to monitor development work instead.
