Repatriation Of Rohingyas Is ‘Only Viable Solution’, CA Tells UN Envoy On Myanmar

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has stressed that the repatriation of Rohingya people to their homeland is the only sustainable solution to the long-standing crisis.
“The return of the Rohingya people to their homeland is the only viable solution. There is no alternative,” he said during a meeting with Julie Bishop, former Acting Prime Minister of Australia and current UN Special Envoy on Myanmar, at a hotel here on Monday.
Their discussions covered a range of issues, including the Rohingya crisis, the situation in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, the severe funding shortfall for Rohingya support, and key matters expected to be raised in Tuesday’s conference.
Professor Yunus expressed hope that the upcoming conference would generate practical outcomes. “Let’s hope tomorrow’s conference brings forth some meaningful proposals. This is not an issue the world can afford to forget,” he said.
Bishop underscored the importance of diversifying funding sources for Rohingya assistance and urged OIC member states to increase their contributions.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, NCP leader Tasnim Jara, and SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed were also present at the meeting.
