Protesting workers advance towards the Secretariat; police resort to lathicharge and teargas shelling

A group of garment workers protesting for their unpaid wages and Eid bonuses attempted to march towards the Secretariat but were stopped by the police. This led to a clash, with workers throwing bricks and stones, while the police responded with batons, teargas shells, and sound grenades to disperse them.  

Reports indicate that workers from T&Z Apparels Limited started their march from the Labor Building towards the Secretariat in the afternoon before being dispersed by the police.  

The incident occurred in Paltan on Tuesday afternoon. Garment workers have been protesting for several days, demanding their due wages and Eid bonuses. Additionally, they are seeking justice for the owner and those responsible for the death of a fellow worker who had been part of the demonstrations.  

On Tuesday, workers protested under the banner of the Bangladesh Garments and Sweaters Workers Trade Union. The previous day, they gathered in front of Shram Bhaban in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, vowing to continue their agitation until all pending wages are cleared.  

The protest march began at noon in front of Shram Bhaban, with workers carrying red and black flags while chanting slogans.
