Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday inaugurated the re-excavation of the Patli Canal in Cox’s Bazar, marking the start of a series of development and environmental programmes in the district.

He formally launched the project at around 10:45am after arriving in Cox’s Bazar earlier in the morning. A US-Bangla Airlines flight carrying the prime minister landed at Cox’s Bazar Airport at 10:00am.

As part of his visit, Tarique Rahman is set to kick off a nationwide campaign to plant 250 million trees by planting a sapling in the protected Masumghat forest. He is also scheduled to pay tribute to Wasim, a martyr of the July mass uprising, by visiting his grave and meeting his family members.

The prime minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several infrastructure projects under Pekua Municipality and the newly established Matamuhuri Upazila.

Later in the day, he will attend a public rally as the chief guest at the Chakaria Municipal Bus Terminal Ground.

His itinerary also includes visits to Cox’s Bazar sea beach and the Marine Drive area, followed by an interactive session with representatives of various professions and social groups.

After completing the day’s engagements, the prime minister is expected to return to Dhaka by air later tonight.
