President Urges Police to Uphold Integrity and Professionalism

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on the police to perform their duties with honesty, dedication and professionalism to maintain law and order and effectively combat crime.

He directed the police to take stronger measures against cybercrime, mugging, extortion and drug abuse, while ensuring the safety and security of women and children.

The President made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir at Bangabhaban on Thursday (3 September).

President Fakhrul stressed that the police must take a firm stance against criminal activities while ensuring fair and humane treatment of ordinary citizens. He also emphasised the importance of taking necessary steps to uphold the rule of law.

He instructed the police to act effectively against the spread of misinformation, disinformation and rumours, and to adopt a more proactive approach in combating cybercrime.

The President also called for keeping the public regularly informed about these issues and strengthening awareness campaigns. He said the current government is committed to protecting people's fundamental human and democratic rights.

He further directed the police to continue taking effective measures to prevent extrajudicial killings, harassment of citizens and the filing of false cases.

During the meeting, IGP Md Ali Hossain Fakir briefed the President on various initiatives undertaken to boost the morale of the police force and modernise and digitalise the organisation.

The IGP also sought the President's cooperation in carrying out the force's responsibilities.

The President assured the police force of his full support.

The President's Military Secretary and Press Secretary were also present at the meeting.
