Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana has been fined 25% of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the opening day of the first Test against Ireland at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, the ICC said in a press release on Wednesday.

Nahid was found to have violated Article 2.9 of the Code, which prohibits “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

In addition to the fine, one demerit point was added to his disciplinary record.

The incident took place in the 27th over of Ireland’s first innings when Nahid, after completing his follow-through, threw the ball toward batter Cade Carmichael inappropriately, striking his pads while he was still within the crease.

Nahid accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel, thus avoiding a formal hearing. The charge was laid by on-field umpires Sam Nogajski and Ahsan Raza, third umpire Richard Illingworth, and fourth umpire Tanvir Ahmed.

Under ICC rules, Level 1 offences carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50% of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
