Jamaat Decides to Contest Presidential Election
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has decided to participate in the upcoming presidential election.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Council, chaired by Jamaat Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman, at the party’s central office in the capital at 7pm on Saturday, according to a press release issued by the party.
Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar, along with other members of the council, attended the meeting.
According to the statement, Jamaat will contest the presidential election. In this regard, a meeting of leaders of the 11-party alliance has been scheduled for Sunday, where a decision is expected to be made on the alliance’s candidate.
The meeting also discussed the country’s overall political situation, constitutional reforms and other issues, including the political programmes announced by the 11-party alliance.
