The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police has submitted a charge sheet against 25 individuals — including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former ministers Obaidul Quader and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal — in connection with the killing of Abujar Sheikh during the July Mass Uprising in the capital’s Pragati Sarani area.

ATU Sub-Inspector Israil Hossain filed the charge sheet on February 18, alleging that the accused acted in collusion and with common intent, forming an unlawful assembly that resorted to force and violence to achieve a shared objective. The report states that by being present and instigating the attack, they aided the murder. Charges have been brought under Sections 143/326/302/114/109/34 of the Penal Code.

Sub-Inspector Moktar Hossain, general registration officer at Gulshan Police Station, confirmed the development on Thursday.

Other notable accused include Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mohammad A Arafat, Mirza Azam and Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik.

According to case documents, on the evening of July 19, 2024, an anti-discrimination procession by students and members of the public was taking place in front of Baridhara General Hospital on Pragati Sarani in Gulshan. At that time, local leaders of the Awami League and Jubo League allegedly opened fire on the marchers.

Abujar Sheikh sustained bullet injuries and was initially admitted to Evercare Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Metropolitan Hospital for advanced treatment. He died on July 27 while undergoing treatment.

On November 16, 2024, the victim’s mother, Chobi Khatun, filed a murder case with Gulshan Police Station, naming 27 individuals — including Sheikh Hasina — as accused.

Following completion of the investigation, SI Israil Hossain of the ATU submitted the charge sheet on February 18, 2026, against 25 of the accused.
