Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that the upcoming national election will lose its legitimacy if the July Charter is not implemented through a referendum.

He emphasized that holding a referendum before the national election is crucial; otherwise, the election would become meaningless.

Dr. Rahman made the remarks at a press conference in London on Friday, following his visit to the United States.

He reaffirmed that Jamaat’s uncompromising fight against corruption will continue and that the party will always stand by the people in this struggle.

The Jamaat chief also urged the government to extend the voter registration deadline for expatriate Bangladeshis until November 15.

Speaking about the events of November 7, 1975, he said, “We oppose all forms of crime. Anyone who commits a crime should be regarded as a criminal, regardless of their identity.”

Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson Barrister Abu Bakar Molla, Barrister Nazrul Islam, and several other party leaders were present at the event.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to depart London for Bangladesh on Saturday morning via Heathrow Airport.
