Voting for women’s reserved seats will take place on 12 May, with the election schedule set to be announced on 8 April
The official election schedule is set to be announced on 8 April.
The Election Commission (EC) has finalised the schedule for elections to the women’s reserved seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
Voting for these reserved seats will take place on 12 May.
Senior Secretary of the EC, Akhtar Ahmed, shared the information with journalists at the Election Building in Agargaon on Monday (6 April).
He said the official election schedule will be announced on 8 April, when detailed timelines for the submission, scrutiny, and withdrawal of nomination papers will also be outlined. A total of 50 reserved seats for women are distributed among political parties in proportion to the number of seats they won in the 300 general constituencies. Based on the results of the 12 February general election, parties will nominate candidates for their allotted seats.
Since only elected Members of Parliament act as voters in this process, candidates are often elected unopposed when there is a single nominee.
