PM says mosquito control can be learned by inspecting puddles at home, not through foreign trips

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday said officials need not travel to Florida to learn mosquito control, suggesting that observing local mosquito breeding grounds would be far more practical.

The remark came after a proposal was sent to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) seeking approval for a visit to Florida, United States, by Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain and five other city corporation officials to study innovative mosquito control measures, according to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.

Rony said that after reviewing the proposal, the Prime Minister commented that there was no need to travel abroad to learn about mosquito eradication. Instead, he noted that spending a few hours beside a stagnant water body in the country after sunset could provide enough insight to develop numerous effective and innovative mosquito-control strategies.
