Prime Minister joins roadside rally in Cumilla on way to Chandpur
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday joined a roadside rally at Lakshmipur Bazar ground in Cumilla’s Barura upazila while travelling to Chandpur on his first official visit to the district as head of government.
He arrived at the rally venue around 1:20pm, where leaders and activists welcomed him with loud cheers and applause as he stepped onto the stage.
Tarique Rahman responded to the enthusiastic reception by waving to the crowd.
According to his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, the Prime Minister was en route to Chandpur and made a stop to attend the roadside rally, where he was scheduled to deliver a brief speech.
Party leaders, activists and supporters started gathering at Lakshmipur Bazar ground from around 9:00am, joining in small processions carrying banners and festoons. By 10:30am, the programme had turned into a large public gathering with thousands of supporters assembled at the venue.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister left his Gulshan residence in Dhaka for Chandpur by road at about 8:45am.
During the visit, Tarique Rahman is expected to inaugurate the re-excavation of two canals, address a public rally at Chandpur Government College ground, distribute Family Cards and attend an organisational meeting with local BNP leaders and activists.
The tour marks Tarique Rahman’s first visit to Chandpur as Prime Minister and his first trip to the district in 22 years. He last visited Chandpur in 2004 while serving as Senior Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
