The National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have joined a Jamaat-e-Islami–led electoral alliance.

The National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have joined the eight-party electoral alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman announced the development at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.

With their inclusion, the alliance has expanded to a 10-party coalition.

Shafiqur said the alliance partners have already reached agreements on seat-sharing in several constituencies following discussions.

He added that while a number of other political parties have shown interest in joining the alliance, the current circumstances do not permit the inclusion of any additional parties at this time.

LDP President Col (retd) Oli Ahmed and senior leaders of the eight parties were present at the press conference, though no representative from the NCP attended the event.

Shafiqur noted that the NCP would hold a separate press conference to formally announce its decision to join the alliance.

Besides the NCP, LDP, and Jamaat, the alliance also includes Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Khelafat Majlis, Nezam-e-Islam Party, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Bangladesh Development Party, and the Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (NDP).
