Jahangir calls on the BGB to handle border issues with the highest level of professionalism.
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today urged members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and efficiency in addressing border issues with neighbouring countries to ensure full protection of national interests.
He made the remarks while addressing the BGB Day–2025 and medal distribution ceremony at the BGB Headquarters in Pilkhana as the chief guest. Emphasising discipline, training and the welfare of BGB personnel, the adviser directed them to remain alert against drug trafficking, smuggling and other cross-border crimes, warning that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found aiding traffickers or smugglers.
Jahangir also called on the BGB to play an active role in ensuring that the upcoming national election is free, fair and peaceful, and in preventing criminals or terrorists from escaping the country through border routes.
He further stressed the importance of loyalty to the chain of command and professionalism in maintaining internal law and order.
Later, the home adviser awarded various medals to 72 BGB members in recognition of their outstanding service and attended a reception organised in honour of BGB freedom fighters and their families.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Ghani and BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui were present at the programme.
