Tarique Rahman files nomination papers for the Dhaka-17 constituency.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to contest the upcoming 13th parliamentary election from the Dhaka-17 constituency, with his nomination papers submitted on his behalf on Monday.
The documents were filed around noon at the office of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer in Segunbagicha by Professor Dr Farhad Halim Donar, chief adviser of the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB).
Party sources said Tarique Rahman will vie for seats in two constituencies—Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6—in the 13th parliamentary polls. His formal election campaign is expected to begin in Sylhet, while nomination papers for the Bogura-6 seat are scheduled to be submitted later in the day.
BNP leaders noted that after returning to the country, Tarique Rahman was registered as a voter in the Dhaka-17 constituency last Saturday, prompting senior party figures to encourage him to contest from the seat.
The Dhaka-17 constituency includes several of the capital’s upscale neighbourhoods, such as Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara.
