Govt Will Consult Public Before Next Move if Activities Are Disrupted: Advisers’ Council

If the government's normal functions are obstructed to the point that it can no longer carry out its responsibilities, it will take the next course of action in consultation with the people, the Council of Advisers announced today.

A statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, issued following an unscheduled meeting of the council, declared that the interim government represents the public aspirations that emerged during the July uprising. It emphasized that if its distinct role, reform initiatives, judicial process, commitment to fair elections, and regular operations are disrupted, the government will involve the public in determining the way forward.

The meeting, held at the Planning Commission in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar after the weekly ECNEC session, was chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. The council reviewed its three core responsibilities and expressed concern over the deteriorating working environment, which it said is being undermined by baseless demands, politically motivated statements, and unauthorized activities.

According to the statement, the council stressed the need for a broader consensus to preserve stability, advance the electoral process, ensure justice, and prevent a return to autocracy. It also noted that the interim government would continue to listen to political parties and clarify its stance accordingly.

Despite facing numerous challenges, the statement said, the government is fulfilling its duties while resisting pressure from vested interests. If these duties become untenable due to incitement from defeated forces or foreign conspiracies, the government will present its case to the people and make its next decision accordingly.
