Former Narayanganj mayor Selina Hayat Ivy has been taken into custody.

Selina Hayat Ivy, the former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), was arrested around 5:45am today after an overnight police raid at her residence in Deobhog. According to Additional Superintendent of Police Tarek Al Mehdi, Ivy is accused in at least five cases related to killings and attacks during the July uprising. He stated that she will be formally shown arrested in connection with these cases.
A team from Sadar Model Police Station arrived at Ivy’s home, known as 'Chunka Kutir,' at around 11:30pm the previous night to detain her. However, Ivy refused to leave at night. After a standoff lasting approximately six hours, she eventually agreed and boarded a police vehicle.
Ivy, a three-term elected mayor of NCC and former senior vice-president of the district Awami League, has long been a prominent political figure in the region. Her arrest triggered immediate unrest, as thousands of residents poured onto the streets in protest. Demonstrators, chanting slogans in her support, vowed not to let the police take her away under cover of darkness.
