Gold prices continue to surge, reaching Tk 2.29 lakh per bhori.

Gold prices in the country have surged to a record high, crossing Tk 2.29 lakh per bhori (11.664 grammes).

Jewellers raised the price of the precious metal by Tk 1,575, setting the new rate at Tk 2,29,431 per bhori, following an increase in the price of pure gold in the local market.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) on Sunday.

The latest hike comes just a day after gold hit a previous record of Tk 2,27,856 per bhori.

Under the revised rates, 22-carat gold will sell at Tk 19,670 per gramme, while 21-carat gold will cost Tk 18,775 per gramme, according to a press release signed by standing committee chairman Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin.

The price of 18-carat gold has been set at Tk 16,095 per gramme, and traditional gold at Tk 13,420 per gramme.

The new prices will take effect from Monday.

Silver prices, however, remain unchanged. Twenty-two-carat silver is priced at Tk 520 per gramme, 21-carat at Tk 495, 18-carat at Tk 425, and traditional silver at Tk 320 per gramme.

Buyers will also have to pay a 5% VAT imposed by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge fixed by BAJUS, which may vary depending on design and quality.
