The United States has expressed deep concern over the situation in Bangladesh, particularly regarding the persecution of religious minorities, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard stated in an exclusive interview with NDTV World on Monday.

She highlighted the Trump administration’s dedication to combating alleged "Islamist terrorism" on a global scale. Gabbard remarked, "The ongoing persecution, violence, and mistreatment of religious minorities, including Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians, have been a significant concern for the US government, President Trump, and his administration."

She further disclosed that discussions between the US government and Bangladesh’s interim administration have begun.

"The dialogue is in its early stages between President Trump's incoming cabinet and the government of Bangladesh, but this remains a key area of concern," she stated.

Addressing the broader implications of extremism, Gabbard spoke about the ideology of an "Islamic Caliphate" and how various extremist groups worldwide strive to establish such a rule. "The threat posed by Islamist terrorists and the global network of terror groups is rooted in the same ideology and objective—to impose governance through an Islamist Caliphate," she explained.

She added, "This directly impacts individuals of any other religion that these groups deem unacceptable, and they pursue their agenda through terror and extreme violence."

Reaffirming Trump’s stance, she stated, "President Trump remains committed to identifying the ideology that fuels Islamist terrorism and working towards dismantling both the ideology and the means through which it spreads terror."
