Final day of hearings on EC appeals underway

The Election Commission has started hearing appeals on the final day against Returning Officers’ decisions made during the scrutiny of nomination papers for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The hearings began at around 10:15am on Sunday (18 January) at the auditorium (Basement-2) of the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, and are scheduled to continue until 12:00 noon.

Today’s session is taking up appeals numbered 611 to 645, along with any previously pending cases.

Earlier, on the eighth day of hearings (Saturday), the Commission considered 112 applications. It allowed 45 appeals—43 challenging the rejection of nomination papers and two contesting their acceptance. A total of 37 appeals were dismissed, including 13 against rejection decisions and 24 against acceptance decisions.

In addition, nine appeals were withdrawn, two appellants were absent, and 19 appeals were kept pending for further review.
