Asif Mahmud has said the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure the elections are held in February.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan today said the government has already begun comprehensive preparations to hold the Jatiya Sangsad elections in February.
“If political parties can reach an agreement on the July Charter at the Consensus Commission meeting, it will allow us to move towards the elections with greater certainty,” he said.
Asif Mahmud, who also serves as Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, made the remarks while speaking to journalists after placing a wreath at the ‘Shaheed Abu Sayeed Memorial’ at Begum Rokeya University this afternoon in tribute to martyr Abu Sayeed.
Later in the day, he attended the prize-giving ceremony of the final match of the ‘July 36 Football Tournament’ at Rangpur District Stadium as the chief guest.
In the thrilling final, Gangachara Upazila XI claimed the championship trophy by defeating Rangpur Sadar Upazila XI 2–1.
