Fifteen serving military officers, previously held in the custody of the Bangladesh Army, were brought before the International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday morning in connection with two enforced disappearance cases.

The accused arrived at the tribunal premises around 7:00am under heavy security and were transported in a green prison van.

Security in and around the court area was reinforced with deployments from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and police.

Earlier, on October 8, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued arrest warrants for 28 individuals in the two cases, including 25 serving and retired army officers.

The tribunal issued the warrants after taking cognisance of the formal charges submitted by the prosecution. It directed the inspector general of police to carry out the arrests and forwarded copies of the warrants to the relevant authorities. The tribunal also set today as the deadline for submission of a compliance report on the execution of the warrants.

Both enforced disappearance cases name Hasina and Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, the former defence and security adviser to Hasina, as accused.
