Fakhrul Warns Govt Against Striking Deal That Compromises National Interest
Implement Agreed Reform Agenda Without Delay to Hold Election: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday cautioned the government against signing any agreement that compromises national interest, alluding to the proposed humanitarian corridor between Bangladesh and Myanmar. Speaking at a large May Day rally in front of the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters, Fakhrul urged the authorities not to bypass the country’s political parties or the public in making such decisions.
Earlier, at a separate event in Thakurgaon, he warned against allowing humanitarian access for civilians from Myanmar’s Rakhine state, saying such a move could plunge Bangladesh into a crisis similar to that in Gaza. Fakhrul criticised the government's unilateral approach and insisted that any such decision must be preceded by dialogue with political stakeholders.
On the issue of elections, he called on the interim government to promptly implement the reform agenda already agreed upon by political parties to ensure timely national polls.
He added that while the authoritarian regime has been politically defeated, true democracy is yet to be restored, leaving the country in a precarious state.
