Engro expresses interest in investing in Bangladesh, CEO tells Chief Adviser

Abdul Samad Dawood, CEO of Pakistan’s Engro Holdings, met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today at the State Guest House Jamuna to explore potential investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

During the discussion, Dawood conveyed Engro's strong interest in expanding its presence in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on the telecommunications and energy sectors. He highlighted the potential for collaboration in distributing gas from Bhola to support the country’s industrial development, noting, “We are excited about the potential in Bangladesh's telecommunications sector, and we also see great promise in partnering to help distribute gas from Bhola to fuel industrial growth.”

Chief Adviser Prof Yunus welcomed Engro’s interest and underscored the importance of investing in sustainable, future-focused initiatives. “We should focus on long-term projects that bring improvements to the lives of our people,” he said.

Dawood, who is attending the Bangladesh Investment Summit, commended the four-day event organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), describing it as sincere, welcoming, and impactful. “It was remarkable to see so many top companies represented under one roof,” he added.

Encouraging continued engagement, Prof Yunus invited Engro’s leadership to return for further exploration of partnership opportunities. “I invite you to come again. Bangladesh has a lot to offer—not just to investors, but to the world,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy for International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi, SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed, and Principal Secretary Sirajuddin Sathi.
