Electricity remains unavailable at 325 polling centres nationwide ahead of the referendum and parliamentary election scheduled for February 12.

In a letter sent on Sunday to the senior secretary of the Power Division, the Election Commission (EC) directed the authorities to ensure electricity connections at the affected centres before polling day.

The commission noted that the referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election will take place on February 12 and emphasised that an uninterrupted power supply is crucial for the smooth conduct of the polls.

Although polling centres have already been finalised, the EC said 325 centres are still without electricity and require urgent arrangements.

According to the commission, a total of 42,761 polling centres have been finalised across the country for the upcoming referendum and parliamentary election.

Election officials added that electricity at polling centres is essential to run lighting, electronic equipment and other logistical operations during voting and vote counting.
