Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar has said that the interim government has completed all necessary preparations to hold the 13th national parliamentary election in a fair and peaceful manner.

He confirmed that the election will take place in the first half of February, adding that the government remains firmly committed to ensuring transparency throughout the process.

Anwarul made the remarks on Saturday while inaugurating a daylong workshop titled “Identifying Challenges and Overcoming Obstacles in Performing Duties of Polling Officials” in Kuakata, Patuakhali.

“The election will be held in line with the decisions of the government and the Election Commission,” he said, noting that while various rumours are being circulated on social media, there is no cause for concern.

He emphasised that the integrity of the Election Commission is crucial to the nation’s wellbeing. “If every presiding officer performs their duties responsibly, nothing can stand in the way of a free, fair, and impartial election anywhere in the country,” he added.

The workshop was presided over by Barishal Regional Election Officer Md Faridul Islam, with Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed, Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police Apu Sarwar, and Deputy Chief of the EC Secretariat Muhammad Mostafa Hasan attending as special guests.

Around 60 officials from various government departments and election offices across Patuakhali’s eight upazilas participated in the event.
