Chief Adviser To Leave For New York Tomorrow To Attend UNGA Session

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will depart for New York tomorrow night to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to Chief Adviser’s Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad, Yunus will arrive in New York on September 22 and deliver his address at the UNGA on September 26. He is scheduled to return home on October 2.
Earlier, at a briefing on September 17, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said that four political leaders will be part of the Bangladesh delegation this year. They include BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP leader Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Akhter Hossen.
In his address, the Chief Adviser is expected to highlight the government’s work over the past year and reiterate the interim administration’s pledge to restore democracy through reforms and the free and fair elections scheduled for February next year, Touhid Hossain added.
This year’s UNGA also holds special significance for Bangladesh, as on September 30 the UN will host, for the first time, a High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar.
