BUET students stage blockade at Shahbagh protesting death threat to alumnus
The blockade started at around 3:30 pm, halting traffic along the busy thoroughfare.

Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Tuesday blocked Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection in protest against a death threat issued to former student Engineer Rokonuuzzaman Rokon.
The blockade, which began around 3:30 pm, brought traffic on the busy route to a complete halt.
The demonstration was part of a nationwide programme titled “Blockade of Engineers”, announced after diploma engineers at the Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) office allegedly threatened Rokonuuzzaman with death on Monday.
In a statement, BUET students said they were pressing a three-point demand over the incident. They also urged other universities in Dhaka with engineering faculties — including Dhaka University, BRAC University, BUTEX and MIST — to join the Shahbagh protest.
Engineering universities outside Dhaka were called upon to besiege regional NESCO offices and form human chains in front of deputy commissioners’ offices.
