BCL, AL activists attack UNO’s convoy in Gopalganj
Activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Awami League allegedly attacked the convoy of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M Rokibul Hasan on Wednesday morning in the Gandhiashur area.
The incident occurred shortly after BCL leaders and activists reportedly set fire to and vandalised police vehicles in the Ulpur area of the upazila.
UNO Rokibul Hasan stated that the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) had scheduled a rally and public meeting at the municipal park in Gopalganj town on Wednesday as part of its ongoing “July March to Build the Nation” programme.
“To disrupt the event, Awami League and Chhatra League supporters first attacked the police and then targeted my convoy,” he said.
The NCP launched its “July March to Rebuild the Nation” on 1 July, with events being held in various districts. Wednesday’s programme in Gopalganj was part of the nationwide initiative.
