A Dhaka court on Wednesday issued arrest warrants against Transcom Group Chief Executive Officer and Prothom Alo owner Simeen Rahman, along with two others, in a case involving the alleged embezzlement of 14,160 shares through forged signatures and counterfeit stamps.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order on Wednesday (21 January) after taking cognisance of the charge sheet submitted in the case. The other two individuals against whom arrest warrants were issued are Shahnaz Rahman, wife of Transcom founder Latifur Rahman, and Transcom Group director Shamsuzzaman Patwary.

Confirming the matter, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Monir Hossain, said the court accepted the charge sheet filed by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and ordered the issuance of arrest warrants against Simeen Rahman and the two co-accused.

“Since they are now listed as absconding accused, police can arrest them at any time,” he added.

Court sources said a total of six people have been accused in the case. Among them, Transcom director Md Kamrul Hasan, Md Mosaddeq, and Abu Yusuf Md Siddiq appeared before the court on Wednesday.

Their lawyers submitted petitions seeking permanent bail, which the court allowed. However, Simeen Rahman and the other two accused were absent, leading the court to issue arrest warrants against them.

The court set 2 February as the next date for submitting a report on the execution of the warrants.

Earlier, on 11 January, PBI Inspector Syed Sajedur Rahman submitted the charge sheet to the court, naming Simeen Rahman and five others as accused in the case.
