The people will determine whether the Awami League can participate in the upcoming national elections, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday. Speaking at a program in Feni’s Fulgazi upazila, he stated, "The Awami League is a political party, and it is the people who will decide if the party can engage in politics or elections." He further emphasized, "However, those who have committed murder, inflicted torture, and embezzled the nation’s wealth must be held accountable and punished."

Fakhrul praised the interim government for its achievements over the past three months, stating, "The interim government has done a lot in a short time. They will organize free and fair elections after addressing the issues left by the previous government. We never said we wanted to bring anyone into the election, but the media has misrepresented our position."

Fakhrul also lauded BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's contributions to the fight for democracy, saying, "Begum Khaleda Zia has made significant sacrifices for the people and for democracy. The previous government kept her imprisoned in false cases, confining her to a small, damp cell, which severely impacted her health." He added, "She is unwell and will soon be sent abroad for treatment."
