The High Court dismisses 11 criminal cases against Khaleda Zia

The High Court (HC) today dismissed the trial proceedings of 11 criminal cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. These cases, filed on charges of arson, violence, and sedition, were lodged at various police stations in Dhaka in 2015 during the Sheikh Hasina-led government. The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain delivered the verdict after hearing Khaleda’s petitions seeking to annul the cases.

Khaleda’s lawyers—Zainul Abedin, Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Kayser Kamal, and Nasir Uddin Ahmed Ashim—informed reporters that 10 cases involving arson and violence were dismissed as Khaleda was not present at the incident locations listed in the cases. Additionally, the HC dropped the sedition case against the BNP chief, as it had been filed by a lawyer without state authorization, explained Mahbub Uddin Khokon.
