RAJUK promises to address DAP concerns within two weeks
RAJUK Chairman Siddiqur Rahman Sarkar has committed to resolving the complexities in the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) construction rules within two weeks to enhance Dhaka’s housing conditions.
“An occupancy certificate will be mandatory before constructing buildings under the revised DAP rules. We aim to finalise these regulations within two weeks,” Sarkar announced during the inauguration of the REHAB Fair in Dhaka on Monday.
The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) is hosting the five-day event at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Agargaon.
Sarkar highlighted that REHAB members account for 35% of building construction in Bangladesh, with individuals contributing the remaining 65%. He praised REHAB members for their significant role in developing the housing sector and boosting the economy.
He also urged developers to prioritize sustainability, environmental preservation, and the protection of arable land.
RAJUK plans to establish commercial zones in Demra, Savar, and Narayanganj and improve connectivity to alleviate Dhaka’s congestion.
The fair showcases 220 stalls, including seven from gold sponsors, 18 from co-sponsors, 18 from building material companies, and 10 from financial institutions.
REHAB President Md Wahiduzzaman emphasized the importance of the real estate sector, noting its links to over 200 related industries and 40 lakh workers, contributing 15% to the GDP.
He pointed out challenges such as high registration costs, VAT, taxes, and reduced ADB project implementation due to the economic slowdown. However, he expressed confidence that with supportive government policies, the sector could rebound by 2025.
Wahiduzzaman encouraged potential buyers to explore the fair for reasonably priced flats and plots.
Entry tickets are priced at Tk50 for single access and Tk100 for multiple entries (up to five times), with proceeds supporting charitable causes through a CSR fund. Additionally, daily raffle draws at 9 pm offer attractive prizes for ticket holders.
