The next general election will be held by June 30, 2026, according to Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Shafiqul explained that Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus outlined a clear election roadmap during his Victory Day address to the nation. However, he noted that the exact election date would depend on the progress of ongoing reforms.

In his speech on Monday, Dr. Yunus indicated that the election would likely occur between late 2025 and early 2026. The following day, during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, a journalist sought clarification on the timeline, prompting the press secretary’s response.

The interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, assumed office on August 8 following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina’s administration on August 5. Since then, political parties have been urging the interim government to provide a clear election roadmap.
