Nahid Islam: Political parties attempting to portray the government as unsuccessful

Md Nahid Islam, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, stated that political parties are attempting to assert that the government has failed, as they aim to implement reform initiatives under their leadership. He noted that these parties are prioritizing elections over genuine reform efforts.

He made these remarks during a meeting on Wednesday with a delegation from the British Global Partners’ Governance (GPG) at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, according to a press release.

Responding to questions from delegation members, including former Chilean Social Development Minister Georgio Jackson about reform initiatives and national elections, and former Scottish Parliament Member Lord Jeremy Purvis regarding challenges faced by the interim government, Nahid Islam highlighted several critical issues. He identified the primary challenges as maintaining law and order, addressing the economic crisis, advancing reform initiatives through consensus with political parties, and fostering global connections. He emphasized that the current government came to power through a mass uprising—an event unprecedented in the country’s history.

Nahid Islam also addressed the spread of international propaganda, noting that some have failed to accurately represent the mass uprising. He claimed that conspiracies are being orchestrated domestically and internationally, including misinformation about alleged persecution of the Hindu community, while denying that the movement was a democratic mass uprising.

The adviser further stated that Bangladesh has been grappling with a prolonged humanitarian crisis, including a lack of voting rights and incidents of enforced disappearances affecting thousands. He underscored that protecting human rights is a top priority for the government.
